Heritage Hops Plants

Heritage Hops Plants

The heritage hops have been planted! It will be exciting to see how they grow (maybe we can make a GKHS Beer someday 😉 Ha ha!)
Thanks for all of your hard work Chuck and Tom!
The story behind the hops:
Over a century-old hops were found by City of Kent Engineers in the Green River Natural Resources Area. The Greater Kent Historical Society heard about the find and asked if we could have some starts to plant on the Museum Grounds. Some of the plants and seeds were sent to WSU for analysis and it was found that the hops had not been planted in the United States for over 100 years. We have prepared a bed in which to plant the hops built a trellis for them to grow on. They have been planted and a plaque will be put in to explain the hops history here in Kent.
We would like help in the garden and are asking for volunteers. If you would call or send an email that you are willing to help with the Museum garden it would be greatly appreciated.
PS. We always have coffee, tea and goodies.
Garden Work Party

Garden Work Party

Mark your calendars! June 8th between 2-6pm we will be having a work party to spruce up the gardens on the museum property! We especially need strong backs to move compost and bark into the flower beds! Stop on by after school or work and lend a hand keeping our city’s museum looking beautiful!
