For 1937, “Progress” was the chosen theme. Below is the program from the weekend.
June Miller was named queen with Princess Dorothy Waldrop and Princess Betty McBraun as companions. The Court of Honor included Yoshizumi, Toshi Yasutake, Hanako Mikami and Ruth Watanabe
Washington Governor Clarence Martin again performed the coronation ceremony.
The Royalty met at the Spanish Castle to open the Festival with a ball.
The parade was a big draw again, as it stretched over 2 miles.
The World’s Largest salad got an upgrade.
The Soap Box derby was fast with George and Peter Hallock cleaning up the competition!
The flower show again was successful. There was a street dance followed by fireworks courtesy of Shell Oil Company.
But all good things must come to an end. In 1938, there was no Lettuce Festival. The soap box derby continued as did the flower show, but the Lettuce Queen was gone, as was that big summer parade.
